April 2025 Dog Food Recall: Salmonella & Listeria in Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix

Blue Ridge Beef raw Puppy Mix chub with red RECALL stamp and warning sign.

Blue Ridge Beef has issued a voluntary recall of its raw Puppy Mix after routine testing detected Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration posted the alert on .

Products & Lot Numbers Affected

  • Puppy Mix — 2 lb chubs — Lot # N25 1230
  • (Kitten Mix Lot # N26 0114 was also recalled, but this article focuses on canine risk.)

Lot numbers are stamped on the metal clips at each end of the chub. The contaminated food was sold in retail stores across VA, MD, PA, CT, MA, NY, TN, RI, and WI.

Why Salmonella & Listeria Are Dangerous

Both bacteria can sicken pets and people. Dogs infected may show:

  • Fever, vomiting, or bloody diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite and abdominal pain
  • Lethargy or dehydration

Even asymptomatic dogs can shed the pathogens in their stool and infect other animals or humans.

What to Do If You Have the Recalled Food

  1. Stop feeding it immediately.
  2. Double-bag the chub and place it in a secure trash bin — or return it to the store for a refund.
  3. Disinfect bowls, utensils, cutting boards, and any surfaces that touched the raw food (bleach solution 1 tbsp in 1 qt water works).
  4. Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after handling.

Signs Your Dog Might Be Sick

If your pup ate the recalled food within the last 14 days, monitor for:

  • Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Fever over 103 °F
  • Bloody stool
  • Loss of appetite

Call your veterinarian at the first sign of illness — Salmonella infections can become severe quickly in puppies, seniors, or immunocompromised dogs.

Safe Raw-Food Handling Tips

  • Keep raw pet food frozen until use and thaw in a sealed container away from human food.
  • Feed dogs in an easy-to-disinfect area, not on carpets.
  • Use separate utensils for pet food.
  • Store unused portions in airtight containers below 40 °F.
