History

Westcrest Park Dog Park in Seattle’s West Seattle neighborhood offers a popular and well-maintained space for dogs and their owners.

The park’s origins trace back to a growing community desire for a dedicated, off-leash area within West Seattle.

Recognizing the increasing number of dog owners in the area and the need for a safe and controlled environment, a grassroots effort began to advocate for the creation of a dog park.

Local residents, supported by the West Seattle Dog Owners Association, tirelessly lobbied city officials, gathered signatures on petitions, and raised funds to contribute to the project.

The initial vision was to create a space that prioritized the well-being of dogs, fostered positive socialization, and provided a convenient amenity for the neighborhood.

After several years of community organization and fundraising, the Westcrest Park Dog Park was officially opened in 2018, quickly becoming a beloved spot within the West Seattle community.

The park's design incorporates separate areas for large and small dogs, agility equipment, water sources, and waste disposal stations, all reflecting the community’s commitment to responsible dog ownership and a safe, enjoyable experience for all.
