The amphitheater, constructed in 1965, was initially designed to seat 1,000-1,200 people and utilized natural acoustics, eliminating the need for a sound system.

The Schafer family and the Gold Seal company generously donated their share in Medora to the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation (TRMF), who maintain the park today.

The TRMF oversaw significant renovations throughout the years.

A 1991 facelift, costing $4.1 million, dramatically expanded seating to 2,863, adding a new stage and incorporating escalators and a wheelchair ramp.

Further construction in 1997 and a major renovation for the Medora Musical launch in 2005 continued to enhance the space.

For decades, the Medora Musical, produced by Al Sheehan Productions (under Harold Schafer) until 1991, utilized this stage.
