History

Windmuller Dog Park – Doughboy Plaza History Located in Queens, New York City, the Windmuller Dog Park – Doughboy Plaza, at 1122 Skillman Avenue, NY 11037, has a rich and poignant history.

Originally established in 1971, the park began as a local school playground for P.S. 11 in Woodside.

This 1.71-acre plot of land was designed with children in mind, featuring a hilly terrain.

In September 2001, the park became a site of remembrance.

It was dedicated as a memorial to the 34 individuals who lived or worked in Woodside and perished in the World Trade Center attacks.

A memorial plaque honors their memory, listing their names.

Following the tragedy, Doughboy Plaza’s seating area and 9/11 memorial were rebuilt in 2017 at a cost of $750,000.

The project budget subsequently increased to $1,500,000 and was completed in 2020.

The park remains a dedicated space for the community to honor those lost and enjoy a dog-friendly environment.
