History

John Paul Jones Park Off Leash Dog Area offers a unique dog park experience in New York City.

Originally known as Little Pea Island, the 60-acre park and nature conservancy began as a transmitter building for WCBS-AM, constructed in 1849.

This concrete foundation-supported structure, topped with a 410-foot antenna tower, served as a radio station transmitter until the 1960s when the station relocated.

Prior to this, the site functioned as a water reservoir.

Today, the park features two large lakes, marshlands, fields, and foot trails that weave through woods, marshlands, fields, and around the lakes, promoting an increased understanding of the local ecology.
