History

Fort Snelling State Park offers a unique dog park experience within a historic and naturally beautiful setting.

Developed in the late 1860s, the park’s creation coincided with the expansion of railroads and Minnesota’s rise as a tourist destination.

Landscape architect Horace Cleveland designed the park to preserve the region’s scenic beauty and promote Minnesota's health benefits.

The dog park is part of a larger network of parks and interconnected parkways.

It provides access to Minnehaha Creek and its natural features, including the impressive 53-foot Minnehaha Falls, located approximately three-quarters of a mile from the creek’s outflow into the Mississippi River.

The park's design capitalizes on Minnesota’s scenic beauty.
