History

The Lake Of The Isles Off-Leash Area in Minneapolis, Minnesota, boasts a surprisingly rich history, evolving from a former military installation to a beloved community dog park.

Initially, the site was part of the Nike Project, a network of missile defense sites established during the Cold War.

More specifically, it served as a former IFC (Installation Fire Control) unit, later associated with the Nike Hercules missile system.

The area also included a former LA (Local Area) which has since been demolished.

The 56th (C) Squadron operated from 1962-1989.

Following the disbandment of the 507th USAAD unit, the site transitioned into the dog park we know today.

The location’s proximity to Kempen and Hq 9th Missile Wing adds to its unique past.
