History

Port Crescent State Park offers a beautiful coastal experience in Port Austin, Michigan.

Established in 1956 with an initial purchase of 124 acres, the park's history is rooted in the former ghost town of Port Crescent.

The 120-foot-tall Pack & Woods Sawmill chimney, a local landmark, was demolished in 1961 following community objections.

Expansion continued throughout the 1970s, adding 455 acres to bring the total size to 640 acres.

Today, Port Crescent State Park provides a diverse range of outdoor activities, including swimming, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking, all within a designated Michigan “dark sky preserve.”
