History

Located four miles west of North Muskegon, Michigan, at 3560 Memorial Drive, Muskegon, MI 49445, this 1,233-acre park boasts two miles of sand beach on Lake Michigan and one mile of beach on Muskegon Lake.

Established in 1923, the park’s origins trace back to the Ryerson Hill & Company lumber mill.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) played a significant role between 1933 and 1934, constructing roads, planting trees, and building a scenic blockhouse that still exists today.

The Works Progress Administration (WPA) continued improvements from 1937 to 1941, focusing on the beach area and extending the scenic drive.

Beyond its historical significance, Muskegon State Park provides numerous activities, including swimming, picnicking, fishing, hiking, and winter sports like cross-country skiing, ice skating, and ice fishing.
