History
Pooch pines dog park, located within the expansive Okeeheelee Park, has a rich history rooted in the development of one of South Florida’s largest and most diverse recreational spaces.
The initial vision for Okeeheelee Park began in 1973, when the County Board of County Commissioners approved the acquisition of 900 acres of land south of Forest Hill Boulevard and west of Jog Road.
This ambitious project aimed to create a comprehensive park encompassing a wide array of recreational activities.
Development of Okeeheelee Park was a phased undertaking, commencing with the first phase in March 1982.
This initial phase, costing approximately $6 million, covered 954 acres and included key features like 12 athletic fields, a water ski course, a motocross trail, picnic areas, and wooded nature trails spanning 4.5 miles.
The park’s growth continued over the years, expanding its offerings and solidifying its place as a major recreational hub for Palm Beach County.
The creation of the dog park itself reflects the park’s commitment to accommodating diverse interests.
It’s part of a larger 1,700-acre (690 ha) park that also includes baseball fields, softball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, a BMX race track, mountain bike trails, and other amenities.
The Okeeheelee Nature Center, with its displays of reptiles and aquatic life, further enhances the park’s appeal.
The park’s evolution is a testament to ongoing community investment and a dedication to providing outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. [https://example.com](https://example.com)
