The Curtis Hixon Waterfront Dog Park in Tampa, Florida, began as part of a significant downtown redevelopment initiative.

Developed as a component of the Riverwalk project initiated in 2002 by Mayor Pam Iorio, the park addresses underutilized spaces and transportation issues within the city’s core.

Construction, totaling $9.2 million, included a 2-mile boardwalk completed in 2014.

This boardwalk creates a continuous pathway connecting the park to the Tampa Convention Center, Amalie Arena, the Florida Aquarium, and the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, all while extending under Interstate 275.

Mayor Peter O. Knight and Victoriano Manteiga (La Gaceta), along with various local leaders, were involved in the project's development.

The park is now a modern and popular waterfront dog park open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
