History

Eagle Lake Dog Park, located within Eagle Lake Park in Clearwater, Florida, boasts a surprisingly rich history extending far beyond its current role as a canine recreation space.

Initially established as Jonesboro in 1850 by George Jones, the area’s development is intertwined with the broader story of Florida’s westward expansion.

The settlement was later renamed Dunedin in 1888 due to the first post office application.

The land’s significance grew with the arrival of the Orange Belt Railway in 1888, a key transportation route that facilitated trade and settlement.

The area’s development continued with the establishment of the Nielsen Media Research office, which operated here until 2003 when operations were consolidated in Oldsmar, Florida.

Today, the dog park is situated along the former roadbed of the Orange Belt Railway and bisected by the 39-mile Pinellas Trail, offering unique access points for both humans and their furry companions.

The park is also near TD Ballpark and the Englebert Complex, home to the Dunedin Blue Jays and Toronto Blue Jays spring training facilities.
