Mashamoquet Brook State Park, located in Pomfret Center, Connecticut, boasts a rich history extending back to 1941, initially connected to the Fairfield County Astronomical Society.
The park’s development is intricately tied to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s early origins.
In 1941, a first-generation Armand Spitz planetarium was built within the lecture hall of Courtland Park, featuring a raised and lowered dome for planetarium shows.
Through an E.Y. Webster Estate donation of eight acres, Courtland Park expanded, incorporating a carriage house as a museum, a barnyard, and a wildlife area.
Today, the park continues to host recurring events like the Maple Sugar Fest Sundays, featuring tree tapping and maple-themed activities, and an annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction fundraiser benefiting the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.
The park is open year-round.
