It was originally established by the Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) through the acquisition of Mount Clef Ridge and Wildwood Canyon from the Janss Investment Company.

In 1987, it merged with Wildwood Mesa Park, expanding its recreational footprint.

The park is now managed by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), a partnership between the CRPD and the City of Thousand Oaks.

Wildwood Dog Park has also served as a filming location for TV series and commercials.
