**History:**
Canada Vista Park, the location of the dog park, has a rich and layered history dating back to its use as Santa Anita Park.
Established in 1935, Santa Anita Park was a prominent horse racing venue, hosting numerous significant races and attracting top jockeys and celebrities.
Notable figures who frequented the park included Bing Crosby, Joe E. Brown, Al Jolson, Harry Warner, and Esther Williams, among others.
Many were involved as stockholders.
In 1935, the park boasted a 1,100-foot grandstand seating 26,000 guests, rendered in an Art Deco style, and a track infield with picnic tables and large trees.
Six mess halls, each seating approximately 850, served up to 3,000 people daily at a cost of 33 cents per meal.
During its operation, the park housed over 2,000 horses in 61 barns and included an equine hospital.
Following World War II, the site was utilized as an assembly center for Japanese Americans interned during the war.
From 1942 to 1945, over 18,000 people lived in horse stables and military-style barracks.
The park’s historic grandstand and facilities were used to house these displaced individuals.
In 1942, racing at Santa Anita was temporarily suspended due to the Second World War.
The Assembly Center remained open for several months.
In 1940, Seabiscuit won the Santa Anita Handicap in his last start.
The land was later redeveloped into Canada Vista Park, and the dog park was established as a recreational space for canine companions within the park.
