History

Kennedy Park Off Leash Area, Napa, California, began as the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, established in November 1969.

This reserve’s creation was significantly shaped by the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 and the California Coastal Act of 1976, resulting in the formation of the California Coastal Commission.

The off-leash area developed as part of this protected coastal zone, offering a unique space for dogs to explore within the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, a location within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Jointly managed by San Mateo County Parks and Recreation and the California Department of Fish and Game, the Kennedy Park Off Leash Area provides access to a 2.5-mile (4.0 km) looping trail, marked from Marker 15 to 13, 12, 9, and 2, returning to 15.

The area is bordered by Pillar Ridge Private Community and Airport Street to the east, and the community of Princeton-by-the-Sea to the south.
