History

Seacliff State Beach’s history is a layered one, beginning with its initial purpose as an amusement and fishing ship.

Constructed in 1930 by the Cal-Nevada Company, the ship, originally intended as a temporary attraction, was abandoned after just two seasons.

The vessel was subsequently stripped and repurposed as a nature preserve and fishing facility.

Significant damage occurred in 2016 and 2017, impacting the pier and visitor amenities.

In 2023, a major storm led to the removal of the pier, significantly altering the beach landscape.

This history reflects a continuous adaptation to environmental challenges and evolving uses of the coastal space. ---
