History

Lake Washington Christian Church began in the mid-1960s with a focus on relief aid for Greece.

Groundbreaking occurred on May 14, 1961, on land formerly the Wheeler Family Dahlia Farm, extending to Portage Bay—land previously utilized for the 1964 World’s Fair.

Contracts were finalized in October 1961; Archbishop Iakovos laid the cornerstone in February 1962.

Roof repairs took place between 1967 and 1968.

The church was sold to Overall Laundry in the late 1990s and is slated for demolition to make way for an R.E.I. Flagship Store.

Key figures included Father Palassis and Fr.

Michael, who established “HolyMong,” the first Byzantine-style mosaic work on the West Coast.

The church previously offered programs for Kids, Youth, Men’s, Women’s, Sunday School, and a Choir.
