History

Thousand Hills Church in Corinth, Texas, boasts a remarkable history dating back to its founding in November 1850.

Initially established under a tree in Mr. Baines’ backyard, the church’s roots trace back to Hickory Creek, five miles south of Denton.

The church grew alongside the burgeoning town, initially known as Hickory Creek Baptist Church, but faced challenges due to contaminated water, leading to a split among the congregation.

A pivotal moment occurred in 1856 when residents petitioned for a better water source and a more central location.

This coincided with Denton’s rise as the county seat, established after Denton County elected a new seat and accepted a 100-acre offer.

The town of Alton, the church’s original location, declined, resulting in the closure of its post office and eventual decline.

Today, Thousand Hills Church maintains a strong presence in the North Texas community between Denton and Lewisville.
