History

Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, boasts a rich history deeply intertwined with the evolution of the Roman Catholic Diocese.

Established as a mission church, its roots trace back to significant shifts within the broader Catholic structure of Indiana.

In 1967, a new mission church was constructed in Santa Claus, Indiana, expanding the church's reach.

Prior to this, the Assumption Cathedral closed, and Holy Trinity Church served as the pro-cathedral.

The Diocese experienced changes in leadership; Paul VI named Leibold as archbishop of Cincinnati.

Throughout the late 1970s and 80s, several missions, including the St.

Ann Mission in Shelburn and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission in Dugger, were closed.

Bishop Gerald Gettelfinger of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis succeeded Shea upon his retirement.

Significant parish consolidations occurred, most notably in 2008 when St.

Mary and St.

Simon Parishes merged into Our Lady of Hope Parish, resulting in the demolition of the St.

Mary church.

The church continues to operate today, maintaining its commitment to the Roman Catholic faith.

Accessibility is a key focus, with the church completely handicapped accessible, offering a welcoming environment for all.
