History

Empowerment Temple Ame Zion Church in Anchorage, Alaska, boasts a rich history dating back to 1959.

Initially established as a mission congregation, the church’s roots are firmly planted in the Methodist tradition, stemming from a merger of the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America in 1961.

The church's first home was the Dryden Theatre of the George Eastman House, before relocating to its current location at 1313 East 3rd Street, Anchorage, Alaska, 99508.

The building itself, completed in 1962 and originally designed by Richard Upjohn, the First President of the American Institute of Architects, stands as a testament to the church's enduring legacy.

Pastor Alsey Tobias Williams currently leads the congregation, which comprises 100 members or less. Empowerment Temple Ame Zion Church offers a diverse range of ministries including those for Kids, Youth, College students, Singles, Men, Women, and Adults, alongside Small Groups and a vibrant Choir.

Services are held every Sunday at 1:00pm and Wednesday evenings for Mid-Week Bible Study at 7:00pm.

Counseling services and funeral services are also available.

The church adheres to the Apostles Creed.
