History

Forest Hill Memorial Park East, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a long-standing, family-owned funeral home and memorial park that serves the community with traditional funeral services, memorial arrangements, and advanced planning.

The park itself is a 70-acre tree-filled space offering a sanctuary for remembrance and celebration.

Forest Hills East Memorial Park offers traditional in-ground burials, cremation, lawn crypts, and mausoleums.

The circular driveway features a flag presentation, and there is a 9/11 memorial, a special upright section, and trees that are hundreds of years old.

The cemetery’s origins trace back to 1924 when E. Clovis Hinds founded Memorial Park Cemetery on an initial 54 acres (0.22 km2).

Situated at 5668 Poplar Avenue, the park was initially designed to provide a peaceful and beautiful space for remembrance.

Throughout its history, the park has been enhanced with notable sculptures and features, including the Crystal Shrine Grotto, begun in 1935 and completed after the artist Dionicio Rodriguez’s death in 1955.

This hand-built cave, filled with 5 tons (4.5 t) of quartz crystal, depicts Biblical scenes and illustrates “Christ’s Journey on the Earth from Birth to Resurrection.” The cemetery also contains significant sculptures such as Annie Laurie’s Wishing Chair, Broken Tree Bench, Abrahams Oak, Pool of Hebron and Cave of Machpelah.

Today, the cemetery is owned by the private death care industry company, NorthStar Memorial Group.
